Louis Braille, created braille based of of night writing. Instead of 12 dots Louis created a 6 dot system. The system quickly spread around the National Institute of Blind Children, which was the school that Louis went to. -
The National Institute for Blind Children didn't even officially adopt braille until two years after Louis Braille passes -
The english speaking world didn't have a clue to what braille was until agencies from Great Britain and United States met up and agreed on a system called English Standard Braille. -
There have been several minor changes made to braille over the years, like adding punctuation, and further improving the system. The last adjustment made was to add in mathematic signs, and braille hasn't changed since.
