    People from both the North and South came into Kansas to vote to decide on whether or not to make Kansas a free or slave state.
    Because of this many fights and battles broke out.

    Dredd Scott Decision
    Dredd Scott was once a slave living in Wisconsin and Illinois with his master. Later they moved to Missouri, where his master died. After this he sued for his freedom claiming that because he lived in a free state. The judge decided that because he was a slave he couldn't sue and that just because he lived there for a time, it didn't make him free.

    John Brown tried to started a revolt by giving slaves weapons in hopes that they would fight for their freedom. John Brown led an attack against the town of Harper's Ferry where the U.S. Army stored weapons. He then took control of the guns but was surrounded by Robert E. Lee's troops. He was eventually hanged.
