    Magna Carta
    The first attempt to limit the powers of the King of England over his subjects. There was then a war later to keep the King from taking away the rights of the people. This document limted the monarch's power, and was the end of a revolution.
  • Mayflower Compact

    Mayflower Compact
    The first document that was created to determine the acts of government by the people from The Mayflower. All property would be shared within the group, and was ineffective. It was written out rules and the rights of the people. The Mayflower Compact was closely related to the idea of communism. MC is limited government because it was a form of government that was created to keep the people equal by sharing everything.

    Provided freedom of speech and banned cruel and unusual punishment.This gave the people the opportunity to express themselves in many different ways without being punished.
  • Stamp Act

    The stamp act was passed by the British and was the first to put direct taxes on all the colonies. It upset the people because it required the people to pay taxes on all written documents. Road to revolution because we refused to participate in taxes.

    This was a meeting that was held in NY that was the first gathering of representatives to discuss the protest of Britain's taxes. This was onto the road to revolution because the discussion was of the people's well-being and the anger that was built up to the revolution.

    This document declared that taxes from the Stamp Act for the colonists without their consent were unconstitutional. This is limiting government because it gave rules to what the government can and cannot do.

    Petition of Right
    A document that stated the specific freedoms and subjects that the king was prohibited from. It put restrictions on non-parliamentary taxation, imprisonment without cause, and restricts the use of martial law, etc. This was the limit of government because it specifically limits the things the government could do to the people.

    Boston Tea Party
    As the people of New England were boycotting and rebelling against the taxes of tea, decided to take action for themselves. The people of Boston dumped 342 crates of tea into the water. This was leading towards the revolution because we took a stand against taxes.

    Intolerable Acts
    The name for the series of laws that were "intolerable" to the people that they didn't have any say for, and didn't want to follow. This was the road to revolution because all these different acts created conflicts between the government and the people.
  • First Continental Congress

    This was the gathering of 12 of the 13 colonies to discuss the responses to the Intolerable Acts. There was a unanimous decision that they wanted to boycott the British.

    The government decision to stray away from the king's rule. Basically the House of Representatives during the colonial period, and the governors that were appointed, were the executive branch. Each representative from each "state". It was also the guide to the Declaration of Independence and the decision to go to war with Britain. This was the road to limited government because the gov was only allowed to do certain things, as well as helping the government develop.

    This was the document that freed the 13 colonies from the British rule, and saw themselves as independent states. It was our literal declaration of independence from Britain. The Declaration of Independence is both a road to revolution and a limit to government. The US takes a stand and also moves us into the American Revolution and causes many problems. But also, the British government is taken away and limited, as we try to free ourselves. The founders knew this freedom would become war.

    Albany Plan of Union
    The first attempt to put the colonies under a unified government, and it was the idea of the British. Limited government because it limited the central governments and it's actual power. Too much limitation, and it was ineffective, so there must be a balance between.
