BMW E30 M3 Group A #123407 Period History

  • Period: to

    Construction

Rainer Fink raced a BMW M3 Group A in 1989 and 1990 but that one had a bolted-in roll cage. Probably the car had an older specification and Fink was looking for an upgrade, that became chassis #123407. It was fitted with all the latest suspension parts but had an relatively 'old', light roll cage specification that was used before 1990. The purple color suggests it came from Linder and some say they read about it in a magazine saying "Ex Linder". He also put a chassis plate on with "Fi-005-91".

Rainer Fink with his new M3 take first place at the Schaumburger Bergrennen in 1991. His time was a Group A record and still stands to this day on this track, partly because 1991 was the last year that this Hillclimb was run.

    The 1992 season

Rainer Fink decides he wants to up his game, he sells the M3 to Andreas Kovesdan, a Hungarian BMW dealer, and moves on to prototypes, eventually becoming European champion.
Mister Kovesdan steps up from a 325i and becomes meistershaftssieger 1992 with the M3 in group A.

    The 1993 season.

Neither the M3 or mister Kovesdan appear in any results, so the car was probably having a little break in garage.
    This has to be verified.
  • Period: to

    The 1994 season

Kovesdan returned to motorsport and participated in the "Autós Gyorsasági Országos Bajnokság". That's the national touring car championship of Hungary. As seen in the records and records2 he became champion in group A and was close to winning the overal standings. The records also say he didn't enter the last round of the championship.

    Season 1995

Kovesdan continues to race the M3, but the classes have changed and the car is put in to group S, we don't know what that means. All other group A cars are also put here, including some very fast E36 M3's, explaining the somewhat 'lesser' results. The car doesn't finish in the first round and is missing at the next event, repairs?
Finished 6th in the group S championship.
