In 1975 when he read Popular Electronics, he saw the altair 8800, and immidiatly called MITS to say he was working on a BASIC interpreter for the altair, but he was not. they wanted to see it, so he made it and went there to show the program.

Microsoft launched its first retail version of Microsoft Windows on November 20, 1985, and in August, the company struck a deal with IBM to develop a separate operating system called OS/2, nut a partnership began to fall apart, and Gates made a new version of OS/2
