  • Fascicts March on Rome

    In October aproximently 30,000 fascisrs marched on Rome. They demanded that King Victor Emmanuel III put Mussolini in charge of the government. In the end King Victor Emmmanuel decided it would be the best to make the dynasty survive. (Political)
  • Militarists Take Control of Japan

    When the Great Depression struck in 1929 many Japanese blamed the government. Military leaders gained support and won control of the country. The militarists wanted to restore traditional power. So they made the militarists made the emperor the symbol of state power. (Political)
  • New Deal

    Franklin D. Roosevelt created the New Deal in his first 100 days of becoming president. The New Deal reformed the American economic system. (Political)
  • Hitler Defies Versailles Treaty

    German troops moved into the Rhineland. The French were unwilling to risk war. The British urged appeasement, giving in to an aggressor to keep peace. (Political)
  • The German Reich Expands

    Hitler announced to his advisers his plans to absor Austria and Chechoslovakia into the Third Reich. The Treaty of Versailles prohibted an alliance between Austria Hungary and Germany. France and Britain ignonred their pledge to protect Austrian independence. (Economic)

    Nazi leaders launched a violent attack on the Jewish Community. They attacked Jewish homes, businesses, and syagogues across Jermany and murdered close to 100 Jews. (Social)
  • Germany Declares War

    Germany declared war on Poland by creating a surprise attack on Polish land. German weapons started bombing Poland's capital, Warsaw. (Military)
  • Soviets Make Their Move

    Stalin decided he wanted the eastern half of Poland. Later he took the countries north of Poland. Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia fell with out a fight, however, Finland resisted. (Military)
  • Suprise Attack by Germany

    Germany launched a surprise attack on Denmark and Norway. four hours after the attack on, Denmark fell. Two months later Norway fell too. (Military)
  • Lend-Lease Act.

    The president could lend or lease weapons anad other supplies any country vital the the United States. By the summer of 1941 the U.S. Navy was escorting British ships carrying U.S. arms. In response Hitler ordered his submarines to sink any cargo ships they met. (Economic)
  • Germany Invades the Soviet Union

    Germany decided to continue with Operation Barbossa so they came on to Soviet Land and started attacking. The Soviets were not prepared for this attack. (Military)
  • Pearl Harbor Attack

    Within two hours, the Japanese had sunk or damaged 19 ships, including 8 battleships. docked in Pearl Harbor. More than 2,300 Americans were killed; with 1,100 wounded. It is one of the lowest points in United States history. (Military)
  • Star of David Patch

    After 1941, all Jews in German-controlled areas had to wear a yellow Star of David patch. This was to make sure the Nazis could tell a Jew and Non-Jew apart. (Cultural)
  • Battle of Midway

    American forces were hidden beyond the horizon. As the first air attacks started American planes came in and attacked the Japanese fleet. The American's plan were a success the Americans destroyed 332 Japanese planes, all four aircraft carriers, and one support ship. (Military)

    On this date the U.S. Marines, with Austrilian support landed on the Guadalcanal and the neighboring island of Tulagi. The battle lasted for six months. The Japanese lost aproximently 24,000 out of 36,000 soilders. (Military)

    The Luftwaffle went on nightly bombing raids that set much of the city on fire. Stalin continued to tell his commanders to defend the city that was named after him. (Military)
  • The Battle of Stalingard Ends

    In 1939 the capital of Poland, Warsaw, had a population of nearly 1.3 million, In 1945 when Soviet soilders entered Warsaw only 153,000 people remained. (Social)

    Hans Frank, the "Slayer of Poles" was the only convicted Nazi the express any remorse. He said, A thousand years will pass and still this guilt of Germany will not have been erased." He obviously realized the horrible inhumane things he did. (Political)
