    The First Passover

    God asked the Israelites to sacrifice a lamb, and sprinkle its blood on their doorposts. That night, when the angel of death struck down the first born of the families of Egypt, the Hebrew families, with the blood of the lamb on their doorposts, were spared. They gathered with Moses to begin the long journey to freedom, wearing clothes for the journey and carrying unleavened bread (bread without yeast) along with the remains of the lamb they had sacrificed (Exodus 12:1–14).
