German Invasion of Poland
Nazi Germany invaded Poland and it marked the beginning of WW2, it was the first example of the blitzkrieg strategy of ambush. Hitler wanted to regain the lost land from the previous world war. -
Battle of Belgium
Germany's inquisition to take Belgium since they declared war upon France. The Belgians would not let them through to France so they took it. By doing so they violated the treaty of London so Britain had to defend its neutrality and thus entered the war as an allied power. It is considered a German victory since they obviously still have Belgium. -
Battle of Britain
It was a military defense from Britain against Nazi Germany invasion that resulted in British history. It was fought nearly entirely by air forces. Germany continually bombed Britain to destroy their air forces and invade. -
Battle of Crete
Nazi Germany invaded Crete ( a greek island) and was defended by the allied forces as well as cretan civilians. It was a successful invasion for the Axis invaders. Germans used paratroopers and suffered huge losses and the allies expected to defeat them but German units kept arriving and over powered the birth soldiers. -
Pearl Harbor
It was a surprise strike my the Japanese upon the United State's Honolulu naval base. 2403 people died and days later we responded by using the atomic bomb on Japan. -
Stalingrad
Germany and its allies the axis powers, fought the Russian Soviet union for control of the southern Russian city of Stalingrad, now known as Volgograd. It was a successful soviet defense and stopped the nazi invasion of Russia. It was kind of known as the turning point of the war in favor of the allies. -
Operation Torch
It was the American invasion of French North Africa which were aligned with Germany. The purpose was to secure bridgeheads in order to fight the German and Italians from the other side while they were fighting the British for land in Lybia and Egypt. It's success is debatable but it didn't grow the germans away like they expected to. -
Battle of Anzio
An Italian battle of ww2 opposed by Germany for their liberation. The allies aided Italy in this battle and they were sucessful. Was known to be a tactical stalemate for a while but its important because it was Italy's first real "move" in ww2.1 -
Invasion of Normandy
The normandy invasion or landings is the largest seaborne invasion in history and is often referred to as D Day. It was an Allied operation that resulted in a victory to liberate northwest Europe from German occupation. -
Battle of Berlin
Also known as the battle of Berlin, resulted in the German surrender and Hitler's suicide. It was a victory for the Soviet Union and the allies however the battle rendered many casualties to other sides and left Berlin trashed.
