    After crossing the Rapidan River, a southern tributary of the Rappahanock River, the Federal infanty gathered together near Chancellorsvile under the command of Major General Hooker.

    Major General Sedgwick's force is at Fredericksburg, and Hooker's army is marching towards them when is attacked and driven back by a fraction of Lee's army in the wilderness. Another division of Lee's army attacks at Fredericksburg to keep Sedgwick from advancing. If they were on an open space Lee's small force could not be able to push Hooker's much larger force back. Hooker takes up defensive line around Chancellorsville.

    The Battle of Chancellorsville was fought from May 1st to May 4h of the year 1863. Fighting took place in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. It was in the wilderness near the village of Chancellorsville, the area of and around Fredericksburg, and the area of Salem Church.
    Confederate Losses: 1,724 killed, 9,233 wounded, 5, 938 missing and/or captured out of 57,352 men
    Union Losses; 1,694 killed, 9,672 wounded, 2,503 missing and/or captured out of 97,382

    Jackson and his corp seperate from Lee, they secretly and carefuly marched in front then behind Hooker's army to attack the flank and rear. This is a well-planned and brutal attack, but jackson is mortally wounded by friendly fire.

    Lee and Hooker fight around Chancellorsville, with Hooker giving ground because of the multiple attack launched by Lee. Both sides suffer heavy casualities.
    Sedgwick wins the Second Battle of Fredericksburg and trys to go Hooker's aid, but doesn't get very far after that because he's delayed by the Battle of Salmen Church.

    Sedgwick forces are drive past Fredericksburg to Back's Ford where they were attacked by the Confedarcy with Lee personally present. Hooker offered Sedgwick no help or advice.

    Throughly pounded, in the pre-dawn hours on the 5th Sedgwick and hisf orce retreated. but it tooked both days to get all of Hooker's men and equipment away from Lee and the Chancellorsville.
