    A coroner found thag the Chamberlains were innocent and a dingo had killed Azaria. It was later found that the evidence was contaminated.

    Trial Two

    A trial was held in the Darwin Supreme Court from September the 13th to October the 29th, 1982.Lindy Chamberlain was found guilty of murder and given life imprisonment. Micheal Chamberlain received a 1 1/2 year suspended sentence for being an accessory to the crime.

    Lindy Chamberlain gave birth to Kahlia whilst in jail but the baby was taken away from her at birth.

  • Life sentence cancelled

    On February 2nd, 1986, investigators were called to investigate a death in the area and found a baby's jacket at the bottom of Uluru. Lindy Chamberlain said the jacket belonged to Azaria. Five days later, the NT Government cancelled Lindy Chamberlain's life sentence and released her from jail.
  • Book and movie by John Bryson

    An Australian author, John Bryson wrote about the case in “Evil Angels” in 1986. This book was made into an American movie called “A Cry in the Dark” in 1988.
  • Investigations and contaminated evidence

    Officials started an investigation to identify whether the NT Police had mishandled evidence therefore contaminating it. On March the 19th, 1986, Justice Morling from the Federal Court of Australia was chosen to conduct an inquiry. It began on May the 8th 1986 and throughout that year.
  • Pardoned

    In 1987, because of the report from Justice Morling, the Northern Territory government said that Lindy Chamberlain was innocent and they were given a pardon.

    The Chamberlain case created alot of controversy, much of which revolved around the horrible way Lindy and Michael Chamberlain were shown in the media and the effect that this may have had on the trial.
  • Autopbiography

    Lindy Chamberlain wrote an autobiography called “Through My Eyes” in 1990.
  • Divorced

    Lindy and Michael Chamberlain got divorced in 1991.
  • Remarried

    Lindy remarried in 1992 and changed her name to Lindy Chamberlain-Creighton.
  • Another inquest

    Although the Chamberlains had been pardoned and proved innocent, another inquest began in 1995 and said the cause of Azaria's death was inconclusive.
  • Finally finishes

    A new inquest started in February 2012. In June 2012, the coroner ruled that a dingo was to blame for Azaria's death. After 32 years they finally received a death certificate saying a dingo was responsible for Azaria’s death.
