Henry Clay
Henry clay was know as being the Great Comprimiser. His compromise was passed on march 6th 1820. He lived up to his name with calling the two sides togther. He tried calling the 2 sides together to talk about the no starting the war. -
Missouri Comprimise
Maine became a free state and missouri became a slave state. It split the free states and slave states. It Split the louisanna purchase along the 03 36. This caused more of a division in the country which helped lead to the cival war. -
Compromise of 1850
Cali became a free state.There was popular sovertiy in nabraska and New Mexico. The fugitive act was introduced. Nebraska applied to be a free state. -
Fugitive Slave Act
It required all citizens to capture a slave.People that help slaves could be fined 1000 dolars and jail. It caused further division of the country. THis also caused the BAttle of Christiania. -
Uncle Tom
Very powerful book that drew strong reactions from both the north and south. Political leaders a far away as england read it. The south hated and banned the book. -
Kansas-Nebrska Act
The Kansas-Nebraska Act divided Nebraska into 2 territories, they were known as Kansas and Nebraska. Slavery was popular soveverty in both states. They both became free states in the end. -
Harpers Ferry
John Brown led a raid on harpers ferry. He belived that the amy of slaves would rise up in rebellion with him. His attack did not work and was entenced to be hanged. -
Secession
South Carolina was the first state to secede. By late February 1861 6 other southern states had also seceded. The south was true to their word they stated secciding when Lincoln was elected. NOw the south is its own country. The US's threat. -
The Confederate Goverment
The Confederte Goverment Met in montgomery and in six days they set up a start to the goverment. They drafted a temporary constitution. They elected Jefferson Davis as there First President and their Presidents stayed in office for about 6 years. They were a threat to the north. -
Fort Sumter
Fort Sumter took about 33 years to be completly finished.The fort stood at the front of the bay outside charleston South Carolina. It was the longest built for in the civil war. It represented the division between the north and south.
