Axis wanted to capture a canal.
The Axis powers wanted to capture Suez canal which would give them access to the Middle Eastern Oil Fields. The Germans did not take the canal but it left their tanks and trucks empty so they could not capture North Africa. -
Britain's Fail
Britain's policy of appeasement failed to stop Hitler. Then Britain and France declared war on Germany but there was not a lot of fighting six months. It was called a "phoney war" at those times. -

Axis Successes
Germany invaded and occupied Poland then they did the same to Denmark and Norway. Hitler launched a Blitzkrieg at Holland and Belgium both of them were occupied. France was occupied by Germany. Germany and Italy attacked Yugoslavia, Greece, and North Africa it was a success for the axis. Then Germany attacked Russia and made some gains. Then Germany attacked Pearl Harbor destroying ships and planes and radar stations. Japan took Singapore from the British. -
An invasion
After France was occupied Germany decided to launch an invasion of Britain. German bombers dropped bombs on London and other cities. British Royal Air Force defeated the German air force and Hitler had to call off the invasion. -
June 1941
Hitler sent 3 million soldiers and tanks into Russia. They were surprised because they had signed a treaty with Germany in 1939. Many Russian cities were taken by Hitler but many of his soldiers froze to death. By November 1942 the Russians won against Germany. -
After the attack on Pearl Harbor
After the attack on Pearl Harbor, USA declared war on Japan, then Germany and Italy declared war on the USA. The Japanese won for the next six months then the USA defeated the Japanese.
