    The first car was invented in 1885 and they would break down. No one knew how to fix them so people learned. This marked the first appearance of mechanics.

    In 1911 people started to rally race the vehicles. This caused excessive wear on the parts of the vehicle. This required mechanics to repair cars indifferent areas, like on the side4 of a dirt road in the middle of a race.

    In 1914 Ford Motors started mass producing the model T. This made a lot of cars out on the roads. More people could afford them so more people started to learn how to repair them. Themselves or go to a shop.

    In the 1920s the spray gun was invented, this lead to cars being painted faster and things where getting better for paint.

    Around this time there was more than 60,000 auto shops. This means that many people where learning to fix cars.

    Niels C. Miller built a AC welder. It was less expensive than the DC welders and it was smaller. The AC welder could be plugged into any wall because it only used single power.

    The great Depression hit and dealerships did not sell many cars at all. They had to rely on the service Departments and the Parts to keep them alive.

    World war 2 brought 29$ billion in cars made for the war. Soldiers had to do light repairs when they could and learned about the cars.

    In the 1960's body shops started doing customizable work because people wanted more speed

    Things where getting faster and more people had vehicles, this made more collisions occur and increased the amount of body work specialists.

    In the 1980s cars got a lot smaller, safer and more fuel efficient. The auto industry took 80$ billion and re did everything. The set them back but they re made it with the new designs.

    In the 1980s engines where getting over head cams and valves. This made the engines more complex and required mechanics to learn with the new way of the engines.
