Dec 1, 1960 Atlanta's black residents organize a financial boycott of segregated white owned businesses. Sep 1, 1961 Many white lunch counter owners choose to desegregate their businesses. Jan 1, 1962 Atlanta's public pools and parks are ordered to desegregate by the Federal Government. Sep 6, 1966 Summerhill race riot breaks out and lasts 4 days. Jan 1, 1973 Maynard Jackson is voted the first Black Mayor of Atlanta. Jan 1, 1973 Atlanta Public Schools are integrated.
