    Columbus Discovers The New World

    Christopher coumbus was the first european to dicover the New World. Although he first believed had landed in the West Indies. With this the develpoment and settlement of the Americas began. This is important as without Columbus, Europe would not of found the New World in the time that it did. Also the events following its discovery could of turned out much differently.
  • The Jamestown Colony

    This was the first permanent European colony in the New World. In the beginning the lack of knowledge and the intense focus on the hunt for gold almost destroyed the colony. However with the help of the natives and more focus on living the colony survived. This is important because this is the first time english settlers moved permanently to the New World. This also marks the first sustained contact with the native people and begins forming the relationships that will lead to much hatred.
  • The Stamp Act

    This was an act imposed on the colonies by Britain that required a tax on paper products. Taxed items included ship's papers, legal documents, licenses, newspapers, other publications, and even playing cards. This is important as it is one of the first taxes imposed on the colonies by Britain to pay for their war debt. It is also the cause of the initial anger felt by the colonies towards Britain for the unnecesary tax on the New World.
  • The Boston Massacre

    British soilders killed five American colonists who had been in a crowd, verbally threatening, and throwing objects. This is important as it caused great disrespect and distrust for the British soilders who had already been tagged with a bad reputation.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    This was the colonial response in Boston to the Tea Act, which put a tax on British tea. Colonists boarded and ship and threw all the tea overboard into the Boston Harbor. This is important as this was a message from the colonists to Great Britain on their feelings about the new acts. This in turn caused Britain to create the intolerable acts.
  • The First Continental Congress

    This was the meeting of the colonies in Pennsylvania in response to the passing of the intolerable acts by Britain. This is important as it is the first the colonies united to discuss their feelings on the relations with Britain.
  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    This was the first battle of the Revolutionary war. Colonial militiamen faced off against British troops looking to cease an arms cache. This is important as it is the first time the two groups faced in battle. It also started one of the most most important wars in American history as our indepence was won from it.
  • The Second Continental Congress

    This was the meeting of the colonies to move closer towards independence. The delegates managed the war effort, as well as moving closer towards gaining independence. This is impotant as it was the driving force behind the push for independence. it was our nations leaders doing their part in the revolutionary war effort.
  • The Declaration of Independence

    This document was America's written statement to Britain claiming their independence from British rule. This is impotant as this marks the time in which the colonies officially call for their independence.
  • The Treaty of Paris

    This was the document that ended the revolutionary war between Great Britain and America. This is important as it is the first time America is recognized seperately from Britain out from under their rule. It also Marks the defeat of Great Britain by the colonies.
