  • The Start of Japanese Animation

    Within the year 1917, Japan had begun animation basing work off of animated short films from the United States as well as France. At this time, Japanese anime was not popular because it was dominated by Western animation with the popularization of Disney cartoons.
  • Starting Over from Scratch

    As animation took off, in the year 1923, the Great Kanto Earthquake struck Japan and this was recorded as one the destructive earthquake in Earth history. This resulted in the elimination of many film studios and theaters as well as art work to which left Japan having to start animation over again.
  • World War II

    Throughout the 1930s and 1940s, anime struggled as there was low funding as well as the cut-out process which was laborious. As World War II started, many Japanese animators refused to dabble in the creations of propaganda, educational films were made for advertising and children. This is also continued today.
  • Animation Films

    In the year 1948, currently famous animation company "Japan Animated Films was founded.
  • Astro Boy

    In the 1960s, the very first animated TV series was aired to which is still popular to this day. This anime is called Tetsuwan Atom also known as Astro Boy to many. The success of this television series was the beginning of a new kind of anime industry.
  • Growing Interest of Anime

    During the 1970s, there was a growth in anime to which there was an increase of different genres, themes and animations companies.
  • The Golden Age

    In the 1980s, there was an ever larger increase in interest within anime to which many consumers bought VHS tapes and DVDs of different anime series.
  • Economy Crash of 1991

    As Japan suffers an economy crash, many anime budgets were once again cut and many animation studios were closed. Since entertainment is always popular, some TV series were able to continue. Foe example, Sailor Moon was launch in 1992 and became a huge hit and is an iconic anime to this day.
  • Technology

    As the 2000s rolled around, CGI was now available to which the first completely computer animated anime was made. Many creators were worried about revenue due to the amount free shared viewing of different anime's on the internet.
  • Present and Future

    As anime is currently still develop with technology, many people are expecting more from Japanese animators to create content loved worldwide.
