  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    Issued by King George III after Great Britain's acquired French territory in North America after the end of the French and Indian War. This forbade all settlement past a line drawn along the Appalachian Mountains.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    To create revenue Parliament imposed a tax on all legal documents, stamps, and newspapers. The people in the colonies had to pay these taxes.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre Video The Boston Massacre was a fight in the streets of Boston that occurred on March 5, 1770. A mob of patriots were throwing snowballs, stones, and sticks, at British soldiers. Many colonists were killed and this led to speech-writers to rousing the ire of the citizenry.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party video This was a political protest by the Sons of Liberty. They climbed aboard a British ship dressed as red coats and dumped chests of tea in the Boston Harbor. They were opposed to the Tea Act which parliament imposed taxing all imports of tea.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    Delegates from 12 of the 13 colonies met in Philadelphia as a response to the Coercive Acts being implemented on the colonies afrer the Boston Tea Party. They met to discuss boycotting parliament and The King.
  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    Battle of Lexington and Concord
    This was the first battle of the American Revolution. Between Lexington and Concord, british troops invaded and battled the militia of colonists. This was referred to as the 'shot heard round the world'.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    This battle was a major loss for the colonists. With over 200 dead and 800 wounded they were in a bad position. The battle was fought mostly on the adjacent location of Breeds Hill.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
    In the battles of Saratoga the Americans defeated british troops in a long fight. British General John Burgoyne led troops from Canada to Saratoga. His troops from the south never arrived and the American troops surrounded him. General Burgoyne surrenedered.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    This was the decisive victory for the Americans towards the end of the war. Accompinied by 5000 french troops the Americans forced General Cornwallis to surrender and negotiate the end of the war.
  • Signing of the Treaty of Paris

    The Treaty of Paris was signed in Paris by representatives of King George III and representatives of the United States of America on September 3, 1783. This oficially ended the American Revolutionary War.
