  • Navigation Acts

    Navigation Acts
    These Acts effected trade for the British Empire. The first Navigation Act prevented Dutch shipping. They wanted the government to have more control over trade.
  • French and Indian War ends

    French and Indian War ends
    The French and Indian War ended from the Treaty of Paris. The War was caused because of argues over the territory of the Ohio River Valley. Great Britain gained the territory.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act was passed to help pay of debts from the Seven Years War. The people did not like this and they created the Sons of Liberty.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    British soldiers guarding the Boston Customs House shot into a crowd of people. The colonists didn’t like having British solders in their city so they starting throwing snowballs and rocks and that’s when the redcoats fired into the crowd.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    The Tea Act was created to help the East India Company from going bankrupt. This also increased the tea in trade. This caused the Boston Tea Party.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    A group of people destroyed British tea in Boston harbor. They did it because the colonists did not want to be taxed for tea. So people dressed up as Native Americans dumped all the tea off the ships.
  • Coercive/Intolerable Acts

    Coercive/Intolerable Acts
    The British were angry about the Boston Tea Party so they passed the Coercive Acts to punish them. People called them the Intolerable Acts. The Intolerable Acts closed the port of Boston so that things could not be shipped.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    They had this meeting to plan to go against the Coercive acts. Happened in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They had also planned for a Second Continental Congress.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    The British went into Lexington and Concord and took weapons from the American. This was when the shot heard around the world happened and it was supposedly the start of the American War of Independence.
  • Second Continental Congress

    Second Continental Congress
    At this Congress had assigned George Washington the commander of the Continental Army. The Congress also declared the Declaration of Independence. So America became Independent.
  • Declaration of Independence adopted

    Declaration of Independence adopted
    The Declaration of Independence was caused from the Battles at Lexington and Concord. The effect of the Declaration of Independence was to make America Independent from everywhere else.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
    Turning point for Americas struggle to gain Independence. The Americans defeated the British and it lifted there hopes. This was a turning point in the American Revolution.
  • Winter at Valley Forge

    Winter at Valley Forge
    The Continental Army went to Valley Forge in winter and many died from diseases. They also lacked food and clothes. They now believe they can defeat the British.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    This was the last big battle of the American Revolution. The Continental Army won by surrounding the British. This ended the pretty much ended the American Revolution.
  • U.S. Constitution written

    U.S. Constitution written
    They wrote it because their government was failing. The Constitution created a government with three equal branches legislative, executive, and judicial.
  • U.S. Constitution adopted

    U.S. Constitution adopted
    The U.S. constitution allowed for the federal government to be divided. This lets Americans have individual freedoms. James Madison is mainly know for writing the Constitution.
