    The Stamp Act was when the British put a tax on every piece of paper they used. The money collected was used to pay the costs of the defending the colonies.

    The colonists made petitions in protest, harrassed officers, caused damage and some refused to pay the taxes of the Stamp Act.
  • The Gaspee Affair

    The Gaspee Affair
    The Gaspee was a ship, and many Rhode Islanders hated the commander of that ship because he searched ships without a warrant and sent his crew ashore to get food without paying for it. Colonists burned the ship, and the British were enraged.

    The Committees of Correspondence was formed to exchange ideas and letters about the British with other colonies.
  • British Pulled out of Virginia

    British Pulled out of Virginia
    The British troops left Virginia to leave the Patriots in contol because the american troops attacked and defeated Virginia's governor.

    Boston Tea Party
    The Parlaiment and the King put a tax on tea, and this led the colonists to rebel. When a ship was coming into the Boston Harbor, hundreds of men got on the ship and dumped all of the tea, the British were enraged.

    This act closed Boston Harbor untill they paid for the tea they ruined in the Boston Tea Party. Also, this act required the colonists to provide food and shelter for any British soilders.

    This act was mainly intended to build French-Canadian loyalty to the British. This act stated that a goverener and a council appoinented by the king would run Quebec and this angered the colonists

    This was when patriot leaders heard about the British's plan to arrest congress and sent Paul Revere and William Dawes to spread the alarm to warn that the British were coming.

    The British troopes arrived in Lexington and saw some 70 minutemen lined up. They ordered the colonists to disperse, and they began to back away when a shot was fired (no one is sure of whom.)

    The congress appointed George Washington as general and commander in chief of the new army. They met in Philadelphia to discuss defense.

    This battle took place on the Charlestown Peninsula and it was faught between the British troops and the troops of the American Continental Army.

    This petition was adopted by the continental Congress and it was intended to avoid war with Britian. This petition discussed American loyalty to Great Britian.

    This was when THomas Paine published a pamphlet saying that the British Parlaiment was the enemy, and not the king. This convinced people to want a democracy.

    British Evacuate Boston
    British forces were forced to evacuate Boston when the American army set up cannons to attack the British. The cannons were being fired from Fort Ticonderoga.11,000 British troops and 1,000 Loyalists departed Boston on ships.
