  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act
    The Sugar Act put a three cent tax on foreign refined sugar. It also increased taxes on coffee and wines. Although these increased taxes only affected a small amount of the population, the Americans were not happy with being taxed. The Americans wanted a say in how much they were taxed, or if at all.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    The Stamp act was the first British tax that was directly applied to the American colonists. Every public (newspaper) or legal document had to have a stamp/seal on it, which cost money. The Americans did not respond well to this because for years prior they did not have to pay money for stamps.
  • Stamp Act Congress

    Stamp Act Congress
    The Stamp Act Congress was a group of people who represented the people who objected to this new law. The congress expressed their frustration and disagrement to the Crown. The Stamp Act Congress gave the colonists a model for the Continental Congress.
  • The Stamp Act Repealed

    The Stamp Act Repealed
    The Crown noticed the negative reaction the colonies had to the Stamp Act so they quickly repleaded it.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act
    The Declaratory Act stated that Great Britain was superior and in charge of the American Colonies.
  • British troops arrive in Boston

    The British troops arrive in Boston to enfore laws and keep the American Colonies under control.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre was when five American colonists were shot by British troops stationed in Boston. This event depened the distrust the Americans had for the British military.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party
    The Americans were unhappy with a new tax on Tea. American Colonists that called themseves the Sons of Liberty, disguised themselves as Mohawk Native Americans and boarded three British ships (the Dartmouth, Eleanor and the Beaver). They then dumped 342 crates of tea into the harbour. This event contributed to the conflict in the revolution.

    Paul Revere's Ride was when the Revolutionary War was just begining and he rmade his famous ride to warn the colonists that the "Britsih are coming!"
  • The First Continental Congress Meets

    The First Continental Congress Meets
    The Frst Continental Congress was a group of 56 people, all people coming from each of the 12 colonies who met in Philadelphia. They met in secret not wanting the British to know about their unity. This contributed to the revolution because they were revolting, in secret.
  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    The Battle of Lexington and Concord was a very small battle, it was important because it is where the Revolutionary War began.
  • Declaration of Independance

    The Declaration of Independance decalred that the American Colonies were no longer apart of the British Empire and they would fight for their freedom. Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Robert Livingston, Roger Sherman and Thomas Jefferson all worked together to right the Declaration of Independance.

    George Washington crosses the Delaware
    George Washington comands his troops to cross the Delaware River on Christmas night. They take the British by surprise.

    Many battles took place between 1777 and 1781. The Americans and Britsh both had victories in some battles but there was no victor of the war yet.
  • American Revolution becomes a war

    American Revolution becomes a war
    France signs a treaty of alliance with the United States and they work together to battle the Britsh. The American Revolution now becomes a world war.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    The Battle of Yorktwon was the last major battle of the American Revolutionary War. The British General Cornwallis surrendered himself and his troops to the Americans. This was the un-official end of the war.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris
    A peace treaty is signed between the British and the Americans. This is the official end of the American Revolutionary War.
