American Revolution Project Part 2

  • Sugar Act/18th Amendment

A law similar to the Sugar Act would be the 18th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. The Sugar Act reduced the taxes on sugar and molasses. Reducing the taxes would reduce the amount of smuggling of these items occuring in American colonies. The 18th Amendment was passed and Americans wanted more alcohol. This led to crime and was one of the main factors leading to organize crime in the 20th century.
  • Boston Massacre/Cincinnati Riots 2001

An event similar to the Boston Massacre is the Cincinnati Riots in 2001. They were protesting against the shooting death of an African American male. He was killed for nonviolent reasons. In both events there was a lot of violence such as throwing rocks, stones, sticks, etc. They were all against the government and authority. Protesters crowded the streets shouting for an explanation of why these things have occurred.
  • Shot Heard Around the World/US/Iraq War (2003)

An event similar to Shot Heard Around the World would be the beginning of the U.S./Iraq War in 2003. In 2003 American War planes and ships began to to use missiles against Iraq. A similar comparison is the strength of the American military forces against Iraq. In the end, the Continental army defeated the greatest military power in the world. The major cause for the end of both wars was cost and lack of interest in continuing the war from home.
  • Boston Tea Party/Tea Party Movement (2009)

An event similar to the Boston Tea Party is the Tea Party Movement in 2009. This was a movement to protest against the government bailout of large banks and the auto industry. Both events the government used taxpayer money to bailout a private company. In the Boston Tea Party, colonists were protesting the fact that they were being taxed without representation. In 2009, citizens were being represented in Congress, but felt their interest were not being served.
