  • End of the French and Indian War

    The French and Indian War ended in February 10, 1763 with the signing of the Treaty of Paris. France was forced to give up all of their North American territory. Britain got all of the land east of the Mississippi River and Spain got all of the land west Mississippi.
  • The Sugar Act

    George Grenville lowered the taxes on molasses, in hope to stop smuggling goods. The new law violated colonist rights by innocent until guilty, trail by jury, and should be secure in their home.
  • The Stamp Act

    In 1765, Parliament passed the stamp act. Which everything was printed and you had to pay taxes for them.
  • The Townshed Act

    The Townshed act was to import goods like, glass, tea, paper. Some colonist was to wear homemade fabrics rather than buying fabric made in Britain.
  • The Tea Act

    The Tea act is where they wanted to reduce the amount of tea. In 1773 three ships arrived to Boston Harbor with tea. They has colonist dress as Native Americans and aboard and throw 342 chests of tea overboard this was called "Boston Tea Party".

    In 1774 Parliament passed a series of laws which was the intolerable act.
  • A Meeting in Philadelphia

    In September 1774 fifty-five delegates gathered in Philadelphia, to set up a political body, that would represent Americans and challenge British control. Which delegates called this continental congress.
  • Great Britain Sends Troops

    April 1775, several thousand British troops were in and around Boston and more on the way. British general Thomas Gage had orders to seize the weapons from the Massachusetts militia and arrest the leader.
  • The British on the Move

    April 18, 1775, colonial protest leader Dr. Joseph Warren walked through Boston. Watching for and unusual activity by the British, he saw troops marching out of the city. Warren alerted Paul Revere and William Dawes members of Son's of Liberty (S.O.L), Revere and Dawes rode to Lexington to say the British were coming.
  • Lexington and Concord

    April 19, 1775 redcoats approached Lexington, there they ran out about 70 minutemen, led by captain John Parker. By the times redcoats reached Boston at least 174 wounded and 73 were dead.
  • The Battle of Bunker Hill

    June 1775, militia commanded by colonial William Prescott set up Boston Bunker Hill and Breed's Hill, across the harbor from Boston.

    The members of militia were an important part of each towns defense. Militia members trained and drills with the other citizen soldiers, they practiced using muskets and cannons. Each member was provided his own weapon usually a musket and ammunition.

    Jefferson was one of the first statesmen to end slavery. A Virginia law prohibiting importation of enslaved Africans. He banned slavery.

    Jones led a small fleet around the British Isles. Jones sent a challenge to the commander of of Serapis and he accepted.

    The British captured more than 3,000 Patriots. Also a great amount of munitions equipment. 250 were killed and wounded.
  • British surrender at Yorktown

    The British general Cornwallis brought 8,000 troops to Yorktown, British ships never arrived. George Washington had help from the French.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris ended the Revolutionary War. Benjamin Franklin, John Adams and John Jay made the peace treaty with Representative King George the third of Great Britain.
