    King George III issued the Proclamation to stop fighting between the British and the Indians, Colonists were ordered to stop living in the west and to move back to the colonies. Many colonies ignored the King's orders. They didnt want Great Britain to tell them where they should live.

  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    King George taxed the colonies to pay for expenses of the French and Indian War. This act taxed printed documents such as ewspapers and even playing cards. The colonists has no representation in Parliament so many complained that the King had no right to tax them.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    An angry crowd gathered near the Massachusetts State House and started throwing rocks and snowballs at the British ''redcoats''. As the crowd moved forward the soldiers became aggravated and started to fire. 5 colonists died, and Crispus Attucks was the frist one dead.

    Boston Tea Party
    About 150 angry members of the Sons of Liberty boarded 3 british ships and threw more than 300 chests of tea overboard into Boston Harbor.

    In the First Continental Congress, delegates from mostly all of the colonies met in Philladelphia. They hoped for a peaceful solution to the problems with the King. The sent a petition to King george asking to from militias and to remind him of the basic rights of the colonists.

    British soldiers planned to arrest 2 leaders of the Sons of liberty and capture their weapons. It was suppposed to be a secret, but Paul Revere found out and rode through the town to warn the people. Members of the militia were waiting for them, and soon shots rang out. No one knows who fired the first shot, and soon after the British moved on to Concord where after much fighting they retreated to Boston. it was the first battle of the Revolution.

    Congress voted to approve the Declaration of Independence. All over the colonies people celebrated. we celebrate 4th Of July as a national holiday and call it 'Independence Day''.

    The Battle of Saratoga is considered the turning point in the war for independence. With the American victory, it proved to the world that the Americans were powerful enough to defeat the highly trained British troops.
    After hearing of the American victory at Saratoga, the French declared recognition of the United States of America and fully supported their war of independence.

    Surrender at Yorktown
    The Americans and French cornered Cornwallis at Yorktown. Cornwallis sent word to his commander up north to send relief, but when relief didnt come on time, Cornwallis surrendered. It was a major victory for the Americans.
