    The French and Indian War
    The British and the French fought over land in North America, resulting in British success. The British then taxed the colonists to pay for their war. This is one of the first initiations of the colonist's resentment towards the British.

    The British put a tax upon all goods shipped to the colonies. This resulted in the Colonists refusing to buy from them, forcing the tax to be lifted on all but tea and negative brownie points for the British.

    The tea act allowed East indian company's tea to be sold directly to the colonies at a bargain price. It was seen as a way to gain support for the taxes and the only result was rotting tea and unemployed British ship crew. This was the final spark of the revolution,

    The "sons of liberty" went to the Boston Harbor dressed as Indians and boarded ships of unloaded tea. They dumped forty-five tons of the tea into the Harbor drowning the tea company's money. The British responded by closing british ports and passing the intolerable act causing outrage in the colonies

    Representitives met from 12 of the colonies and formed a petition for the British in responce to the intolerable acts. This was a major step in beginning to become independent of British rule.

    The Brittish sent soldiers to take the colonist's weapons and to arrest 2 of the main leaders of the patriot movement. This was the first battle of the war for independence.

    The petition was the last attempt by the Americans to come to a conclusion peacefully. King George believed the Americans were simply in rebellion though, and sought to end it immediately. If the king had accepted, the colonists may never have become completely independent.

    Washington surprise attacks troops in Trenton by bringing his own acrossed the icy river. The success brought new hope to the Americans.

    Burgoyne's surrender had urged the French to form alliance with the Americans.
