    The first computer was invented by Charles Babbage. He was an English mathmatician. It was an advanced calculating machine. It took 100 more years to come up with the computers we use today.

    It was invented by Alexander Graham Bell. It was important because it helped America communicate faster. It was invented while trying to improve the telegraph system.
  • Radio

    Radio was originally called wireless telegraphy. The radio was invented before the t.v. People use to sit around and listen to programs.

    Henry Ford was the inventor. Ford invented the assembly line. This was important because it made it possible for more cars to be produced quicker.
  • 18th Amendment

    This amendment made it illegal to sell alcohol. Franklin Roosevelt was president. It was started because religious americans thought it was the reason for all the bad things that were happening.

    This was the movement of African Americans from the Sout to the North. A lot of people moved to Chicago. There weren't many opportunities for blacks in Chicago.

    This was the womens right to vote. It was also called the women's suffrage movement. Susan B. Anthony wrote the first draft.

    People were over spending like crazy on crdit during the 20's which weakened the economy. Black Tue. was the worst day in stock market history. People gathered on Wall street because they were afraid there woudl be no more money. The crash signaled the beginning of the 10-year Great Depression.
  • hoover dam constructed

    Hoover dam 726 feet and high and 1244 feet long. It's on the Colorado river between Nevada and Arazona. It's was named after Herbert Hoover who was president from 1931 to 1936.

    American banks were closureing, people were scared thier money would gone. The Great Depression was going on Personal income, tax revenue, profits and prices dropped. Unemployment in the U.S. rose to 25%.
  • Franklin D. Roosevelt elected president

    Roosevelt was president for 4 terms from 1933 till April 12, 1945. He stated, "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself" during his in his inauguration on March 4, 1933, in reference to hard economic times. His persistent optimism and activism contributed to a renewal of the national spirit.
  • 21st Amendment

    This is the only amendment to repeal a previous Amendment and be ratified. It got rid of prohibition. This was good for the govt. because they could collect taxes on the sale of alcohol.

    During Roosevelt's presidency this bill provided opportunities for service men to get low coast educaitonal, home and business loans.
