    Magna Carta

    The Magna Carta was signed by the king of England. Radical nobles forced him to sign it. This docuement lmited the kings power. It displaced that even the king is not above the law.He can not take rights away. He can not be the judge the jury and the executioner. There has to be a trial before a consqeuce can happed.
  • Petition or RIghts

    Petition; a request to a police official that seeks to correct a wrong or to influence public policy. Right; to be able to do things freely. When you put these two together they literally mean freedom of speech. This was sent by parliament to Charles the 1st. Complains of a series of breaches of laws. This docuement porhibites a king of messing with the rights of people.
  • English bill of RIghts is Drafted

    United states adopted it in 1689. Made to protect the interests of the Protestant population against subversion from above by a Catholic Monarch or politicians. This was a product of the "Glorious Revolution". Its full name is “An Act Declaring the Rights and Liberties of the Subject, and setting the Succession of the Crown." This bill limited the right to raise money from penalty to the parliament. This was meant to control the king and queen and have the laible to the law.
  • Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act was passed by the British Parliament. This was a tax that was given to all the colonist. It required them to pay a tax on all the printed paper that used.Everything from books to ships papers and to liscenes were taxed. The money collected by the Stamp Act was to be used to help pay the costs of defending and protecting the American frontier. The actual cost of the Stamp Act was pretty small
  • Townshend Duties

    Britain tried to raise additional revenue by the Townshend Duties. It was passed by parliament in 1767.Duties were placed on colonial imports of lead, glass, paper, and tea. The money collected on these imports was used to pay the salaries of British officials in America. Colonists objected to the tax without representation. They saw this as an attack on their legislative authority. Colonists waged a campaign of nonimportation.
  • Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre was the killing of five colonists by British regulars. It was the culmination of tensions in the American colonies that had been growing since Royal troops first appeared in Massachusetts. The trials ended quietly. One took place 8 month after the incident. To Paul Revere it was The "Bloody Massacre in King Street". The dramatic shooting is described as the spark that ignited the Revolutionary War.
  • Tea Act

    This was an Act of the Parliament of Great Britain. This was supposed to convince the colonists to purchase Company tea. A related objective was to undercut the price of tea smuggled into Britain's North American colonies. Tea was like their alcohol of today. They had problems of smugglers. It played an everyday role and was needing more people to comsume it.
  • 1st Continential Congress

    The First Continental Congress was a convention of delegates. It was called in response to the passage of the Coercive Acts. The Congress was attended by 56 members appointed by the legislatures of twelve of the Thirteen Colonies. The Congress met briefly to consider option. Their appeal to the Crown had no effect. The delegates also urged each colony to set up and train its own army.
  • 2nd Continental Congress

    The American Revolution had already began when this meeting took place. This managed Colonial war effort while moving towards independence. The members of the Second Continental Congress met at the State House in Philadelphia. The Second Continental Congress meeting started with the battle of Lexington and Concord fresh in their memories. There were There were several new delegates including: John Hancock from Massachusetts, Thomas Jefferson of Virginia, and Benjamin Franklin from Pennsylvania.

    This is a pamphlet or short book. Best selling works of the 18th century american, It taught that it was common sense to over throw a government of an island that is controlling a larger nation. Writen in a way so everyone can read and understand. Lead to the Declaration of Independence.Created mass support for the American Revolution.
  • Declaration of Independence signed

    Mostly talks about the past. Basically a "break up" letter or "dear john" letter. This is states tha the United States is country of its own. It is ran by its own government. The birth of USA. Displaces our independence to Britain.
