Phillip II lead the Macedon army in Byzantia, leaving Alexander in command as prince regent. When Thrace revolted against Macedon rule, Alexander quickly put down the uprising. With his Greek allies, he founded a colony in Thracia, Alexandropolis. This was the first city to bear Alexander's name.

Stateira II was the daughter of Darius III of Persia and Stateira I. She was taken as captives following Darius III's defeat by Alexander at the Battle of Issus. Stateira II became Alexander's second wife.
