Volta was appointed Director of the Royal school in Como. The year after he became a Professor of Physics

Local swamps

While visiting local swamps he observed a 'mystery gas' otherwise know as 'swamp gas'. He was the first person to isolate methane from 'swamp gas'.

Professor

Volta was appointed Professor of physics at the University of Pavia. He held that position for more than 40 years.

Frogs

Jun 5, 1797

Volta had observed that a frog's leg hanging on a brass hood twitched when touched with a scalpel. He called it 'Animal Electricity'

Metals and Solutions

Vota demonstrated that the combonation of different metals and solutions could produce an electric curent

Retirement

Alessandro Volta retired from science and went to his family home in Como.
