    In 1899, Al Capone was born in Brooklyn, NY to Italian immigrants. He had 6 brothers and 2 sisters. One sister died as an infant. Al Capone's parents were illiterate in English and came from very poor families. His father was a barber and his mother stayed home with the kids.

    On this day 7 members of another Chicago gang were gunned down by Capone's men. It was one of the bloodiest days in mob history.     Arrested for Concealing a Deadly Weapon
    Al Capone and his bodyguard were arrested in Philadelphia for carrying concealed deadly weapons. They were each sentenced to one year of jail. Capone served his time and was able to get out because of good behavior in 9 months.

    Convicted of Tax Evasion
    At first Al Capone plead guilty, thinking he was going to receive a light sentence. He later changed his plea and agreed to go to trial. He was found guilty and was given an 11 year prison sentence. Capone was ordered to pay $215,000 in back taxes and fined $50,000.

  • First Prisoner at Alcatraz

    First Prisoner at Alcatraz
    Capone is one of the first prisoners at the new Alcatraz prison. He knew how to work the system when he was in jail in Atlanta for tax evasion. He could get basically anything he wanted even though he was in jail. In 1934 Attorney General Homer Cummings decided to send Capone to Alcatraz, where he couldn't manipulate anyone.

    Capone Dies of complications from Syphilis
    The most infamous mob boss dies at 48 years of age. He spent the last years of his life in quiet seclusion at his estate in Miami, Florida. On January 19th, Capone had a stroke. He then developed pneumonia. He died of cardiac arrest on January 25th.
