    Al Capone was born on January 17, 1899, to a respectable family of Italian immagrants. Al's family was not poor on their voyage to America. However, Al did grow up in a poor, run down squalid tenement ,little more than a slum.

    In about 1920 Capone joined Torrio's mob in Chicago where he later became influential lieutenant in the Colosimo mob. The mob taking part in the illegal brewing, and distribution of beer and liquor. The mob alos started taking interest in legitimate busnisses.

    Capone was indicted for income tax evasion from 1925-29. He was also charged with the misdemeanor of failing to file tax returns for the years 1928 and 1929. The government charged that Capone owed $215,080.48 in taxes from his gambling profits. A third indictment was added, charging Capone with conspiracy to violate Prohibition laws from 1922-31.

    In 1926 Capone was arrested for killing three people. However, he was only in jail over night due to "insufficient" evidence. This was do to gangland's traditional refusal to prosecute.

    On February 14th, 1929 Al Capone "Scarface" had seven of "Bugs" Moran's men lined up and savagely killed. "Bugs" was Capone's only Crime Boss threat by 1929. The men were filled with over 90 bullets from submachine guns, a revolver, and shotguns.

    Judge Wilkerson sentenced Capone to a total of ten years in federal prison, and he was to serve one year in the county jail. Capone also had to serve a six-month contempt of court sentence for failing to appear in court. The fines added up to $50,000, and Capone had to pay the prosecution costs of $7,692.29.

    In May of 1932 Capone was sentenced to 11 years in Atlanta. the thoughest federal prison, for tax Evasion. Even in Prison Capone was able to take over and obtain special privileges. Once word had spread of Capone's take over he was sent to Alcatraz, where he was unable to take over or make friends.

    While at Alkatraz, Capone started showing signs of Syphilitic Dementia, he spent the rest of his prison sentence in the hospital. ON January 6th, 1939 Capone was transfered to Terminal Island. Terminal Island is a Federal Correction Institution in California. There he served a one year misdemeanor sentence.
  • Pay Up!

    Pay Up!
    After Capone's release from prison he may have been free from bars, but he was far from debt free. He still owed $37,617.51 in fines and court costs. Capone spent his final short years paying off this debt.
  • Al Capone Dies!

    Al Capone Dies!
    On January 21st, 1947 Capone had a stroke unrelated to his syphilis. January 24th, 1947 Capone contracted pneumonia, and he was pronounced dead the very next day on January 25th, 1947.
