It was launched in January of 1996 and was mainly geared toward gaining support for those with HIV/AIDS and spreading awareness to gain help and fundraise for research, This organization works together with others such as the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the World Bank and many others. -

This was the first drug in this time period to be approved by the FDA. Novir was designed to target advanced stages of HIV. -

The FDA and other organizations approved an accelerated drug approval program where here were fewer hoops to jump through in order to get a new HIV/AIDS drug on the market. -

The Minority AIDS initiative raised and invested over $156 million to help with AIDS prevention.

The United States CDC released data that showed African Americans accounted for about 49% of AIDS related deaths in the United States. This number was 10x higher than in Whites and 3x higher compared to Hispanics in America. -

The Supreme court anounced and passes the American Disability Act which covers the early stages of HIV/AIDS. -

The Ricky Ray Hemophilia Relief Fund Act was passed honoring a Florida teen wich HIV which authorized payments for those who had blood clotting disorders and were screened for HIV with faulty techniques between the years of 1982-1987
