Postcolonial crisis
In 1560, the first post-colonial crisis occurred with the decline of the cane sugar trade due to competition from production in America. The sugar cane crops of the Casa Fuerte were one of the pillars of Adeje's economy. -
Agricultural production decreases
In 1811, the agricultural production of the Casa Fuerte decreased due to the exhaustion of the land and the plague of worms, which affected the production of sugar cane. They changed to fruit plantations, such as vineyards. -
New crops
In 1898, thanks to Adeje's water resources and climate, new export crops were introduced, such as tomatoes and bananas. These crops were destined for European markets. -
Property purchase Casa Fuerte
In 1904, the old properties of the Casa Fuerte were bought by companies that will start a revival of the economy, improving the infrastructure.
The southern canal is built, ports and roads are improved, making Adeje one of the most important municipalities in the Canary Islands in terms of agriculture. -
Better life quality
In 1915, thanks to the expansion of new crops, the living conditions of the inhabitants of Adeje improved. At the beginning of the 20th century, Adeje already had schools, a health center, music bands and a soccer team. -
Development economy
At the end of the sixties, the development of the municipality takes place due to the tourist boom that the island is experiencing and that alters the economic and social structure of Adeje. -
Bus station
TITSA formalized an agreement with Adeje to open a bus station in Costa Adeje and operate it.
The agreement was signed in 1994, and the station opened in 1996 with a 20-year operating permit.
In 2016, when the contract ended, they renewed it again. -
Costa Adeje
In 1996, the entire tourist area of the town began to be called Costa Adeje. -
Best water park in the world
Siam Park is a water park located on the Costa Adeje. It was named by TripAdvisor as the best water park in the world between 2014 and 2019.
The park is themed on Thai architecture and holds several world records such as the largest artificial wave in the world, 4 meters high.
Siam Park is a great tourist attraction in the municipality and throughout the island. -
High demographics
In 2020, Adeje had a total of 49,030 inhabitants, ranking 5th in number of inhabitants both on the island of Tenerife and in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Due to its status as a tourist municipality, this amount increases in the months of maximum occupancy of the hotel facility.
