    Japan Invades Manchuria
    Japan had invested in business in Manchuria, China. The area was rich in coal and iron, and the Japanese army seized the city. The army attacked even with the Japanese parliament against their decision. Large numbers of engineers came to build factories to find all of the important minerals. This attack was the first challenge against the League of Nations.

    Japan invades all of China
    Four years later, China was in a vigorous war with Japan. The Japanese Army attacked all of northern China. The Chinese Army had millions of soilders, but couldn't take the better equipped Japanese army. Northern cities like Beijing, and the capital Nanjing fell in 1937. The Japanese army killed tens of thousands of soilders and civilians in the city of Nanjing.

    The Germans attacked from the land and the air, bringing in troops and tanks. Overhead were aircrafts dropping bombs on the capital in Warsaw. This new way of attack was a new strategy used by the Germans called blitzkrieg.     Hitler used the same blitzkrieg strategy to attack Denmark and Germany. Very soon after the Germans attacked Denmark it collapsed and 2 months later Norway surrendered to Germany. Along the Norwegian and Danish coasts the Germans built bases so that they could attack Britian.

    Hitler conquered through the Netherlands, Belguim, and Luxembourg, and it was his strategy to take France. Once he reached the French coast, Hitler took over all of northern France. Near the end of May, the Allies forces were trapped in the city of Lille. All of the troops were outnumbered and everyone retreated to the beaches of Dunkirk.

    After the troops bombed the air force and the aircraft factories, they started bombing the cities. They mainly focused on London, trying to weaken the people and government so that Germany could come in and take over. Once the British could detect when Germany were going to attack, Germany started attacking at night. Hitler then gave up on Britain and started focusing on Eastern Europe

    Hitler invades the Soviet Union
    The morning of June 22, 1941, the German army began its invasion of the Soviet Union. The tremendous amount of tanks and aircrafts started the invasion. The Soviet Union was not prepared for the German attack, with the largest army in the world, the country’s troops were not equipped or trained well. The invasion took many weeks, and Germany reached 500 miles into the Soviet Union, then the Soviet Union retreated and burned everything in the enemy's path.

    Pearl Harbor
    Pearl Harbor was a Japanese attack on Hawaii using explosives which left more that 2,300 people dead and 1,100 people injured. Japan naval strategist Isokoku Yamamoto’s reasoning for this attack was that the United State’s base in Hawaii was a “dagger pointed at [Japan’s] throat” and they had to obliterate the threat. The bombing of Pearl Harbor caused the United States to declare war on Japan.

    Japanese attack the Philippines
    The Japanese went into the Philippine capital of Manila as an attempt to conquer the country’s powerhouse city. This attack was part of the Japanese plan to take over the Pacific countries. The American and Filipino forces fought back against the Japanese by setting up defensive troops at the northeastern part of Manila Bay on the Bataan Peninsula. In April, after nearly three months of battles, the Japanese took over the Bataan Peninsula.
  • Battle of Midway

    Battle of Midway
    The Battle of Midway was a Japanese attack on the small Pacific island, Midway Island which was 1,500 miles from Hawaii. The Japanese decided to attack Midway Island because Yamamoto thought that it would draw the entire United States Pacific Fleet away from Pearl Harbor to defend Midway Island. When the Americans went to defend the small island, they hid beyond the horizon and attacked from there. The American strategy was a success and the American’s win in the Battle of Midway turned the tid
