    Our 16th president Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809. He was born with mother Nancy, Father Thomas and older sister Sarah. He was born in Hodgenville Kentucky in a one room log cabin with his family.

    Lincoln was 9 years old when his mother passed away. The family felt empty until 1819 when Abrahams father remarried. Abraham grew to love his stepmother Sarah Johnson Lincoln.

    A year after his mother died his father married a widow, Sarah Bush Johnston. Abe grew to love his stepmother. She helped him alot through life. Sarah taught Abe how to read.

    Lincoln is accepted to the Illinois General assembly. This was the start to his leadership and lead him to be a great president. He lost the election a year before and was crushed. But he tried again and won.

Lincoln and Douglas did not like each other at all. Lincoln ran for congress against Lincoln in 1840 and lost to him so he would not let that happen again.

    Abe Lincoln started the Civil war in 1861. This split up the United states into 3 parts, Union Confederate and Border. His goal was to end slavery and reunite country. He suceeded after 4 long years of fighting.

    Abe Lincoln passed the emancipation proclamation in 1863. This war strategy made it so border states could still have slaves but the confederate states couldnt. Thsi meant that when they captured a territory slavery was banned.

    General Robert E Lee surrenders at Appatomox. He surrendered his army to Ulysess S Grant. That ended the civil war. America was finally reunited.

    Abe went to a play at Ford theatre with his wife. John Wilkes Booth shot him in the head during the play. Abe was pronounced dead at 7:22 the next morning. It was a sad time for America.
