    after kennedy was assassinated lyndon johnson took his place and approved the civil rights act of 1964 which cleared segregation from everything. johnson fought hard in house of rules committee but with the help of everett dirksen the bill was passed. the significance was there was no more segregation or at least to help kill off segregation.
