Salva ended up walking with a group from his village. The rebels made them split up into men and woman/ children. Salva wanted to go into the men group but a soldier pointed him to the women's group. They split up again and the women and children found a barn to sleep in. In the morning the group abandoned him.

The important parts of Chapter 10 is when the group was ale to sit down and eat a dead stork. The men for the Nuer tribe came and robbed them then killed Salva's uncle.

Salva decided to visit and it took a week just to get to his old village. Eventually he did get to the hospital though. this conflict is Character vs. Society
  • Salva

Salva saw his father. His father explained that all his family members were alive. When Salva got home, he held a meeting to fundraise money for small villages in Southern Sudan. One of those villages was Nya's
  • Nya

Nya is a eleven year old girl who has to 8 hours everyday to get water for her and her family.
  • Nya, Southern Sudan

We figure out that Nya has no shoes, because of this she stepped on a thorn, her having no shoes will probably make her journey long and painful
  • Nya

Nye finally arrives to the water. The water is brown and muddy, she takes two big sips. Then, she fills up her bucket and starts walking back
  • Nya

Nya has to walk back and fourth to catch dirty water for her family. Now she has to bring her 5 year old sister along.
  • Nya

Nya's sister had gotten sick from the drity water that they had been drinking so Nya's mother has to make the decision to take her to the doctor
  • Nya

Nya's mother learns that shes supposed to boil the water to make it cleaner. Nya knows that when Akeer has to bring the water she'll drink straight from it.
  • Nya

Two men come to Nya's village to talk to her Uncle which was the chief. Nya asked her older brother what they were talking about and he answered that they were talking about the water.
  • Nya

The strange men are looking for water closer to Nya's village.
  • Nya

Nya finds it hard to believe that there will be water in such a place because the earth below was dry and hard.
  • Nya

Nya thinks that the crane is a "iron giraffe". She thinks this because there is not much machinery where she lives in Southern Sudan so she thinks it is a giraffe.
  • Nya

Nya doesn't understand what the men are doing in her village. She described how many problems were happening with the water. She still doesn't understand how water can be found in the area.
  • Nya

On the third afternoon of the drilling, they were finally able to get water. Water had sprayed out of the pipe while people cheered with the new water. But Nya wasn't happy. The water was still full of mud.
  • Nya

The well in Nya's village was almost done. Nya was upset that the water wasn't clean. It was the same dirty water from the pound. Dep explained to Nya that it would be several more days before the water would be drinkable. Nya began her walk to the pound again.
  • Nya

The men came to Nya's home with tools. When Nya asked her father what they were doing, he explained that they were getting ready to build.
  • Nya

The well was finally finished and her father explained that since there was clean water all the children would be able to go to school including Nya. Nya meets the man who fundraised all the money to build this. it was Salva.
