The Underground Railroad was a network of routes and safe houses that were established during the time period of slavery that helped enslaved people escape from their masters in a more direct and safer way than just running away themselves. This was a direct link to the civil war because southern slave owners were furious they were losing hundreds of thousands of dollars from runaway slaves escaping their captivity.

The Mex-American war was fought between Mexico and the United States over the annexation of Texas, which Mexico considered still to be its territory. It played a potential piece of the cause of the Civil War because there was a lot of land being gained with the unresolved issue of slavery and what states or land would be considered slave states of free states.

The compromise of 1850 consisted of many new rules and guidelines on states and an addition of a new state (California) into the United States as a free state. The fugitive slave act amends were a direct result of the compromise. The slave trade in Washington DC was also a direct result of the compromise. The Compromise of 1850 played a major roll in the separation of the united states because it made people in the north ready for slavery to end and it caused those in the south to fear its end.

The Fugitive Slave act was a big cause o the civil war because slave owners and officials were trying to figure out how to deal with runaway slaves for years and if they escaped, how to compensate for the money the owners had lost and how it affected their "business"

Harriet Beacher Stowe wrote about the ideas of poor treatment to slaves, unjust actions and "pushing back against dominant cultural beliefs about the physical and emotional capacities of black people." This led the civil war because it gave enslaved black people a basis that people somewhere believe they are human beings and it angered the slave owners because they felt they were misrepresented by the book.

In the midst of a heated confrontation of debate, Representative Preston Brooks, a pro slavery democrat beat Senator Charles Sumner with a cane who was an abolitionist. This basically showed the entire United States that even the countrys government or elected officials had major disputes over the problems or ideals of slavery.

The Panic of 1857 was caused because a prestigious bank in New York collapsed and other smaller banks around the united states started to believe they were next. These banks started requesting loans from several businesses leading to assets and other things being sold to become extremely cheap to the point businesses were losing incredible amounts of money. The economic troubles and stress further divided the country and people started to question whether they had a reliable place to hold money.

The Lincoln-Douglas Debates were a series of debates between Stephen A. Douglas and Abraham Lincoln during the 1858 senatorial campaign of Illinois. This led to civil war because it showed Abe Lincoln and his ideals off to the world and how and what he would run for in 1860 as president.

John Browns Raid on Harper's Ferry was where John Brown, his 5 sons and his men captured and took control of the Federal Armory and Arsenal for a little bit before his sons were killed in battle and he was taken in, tried and eventually executed for treason. This led to the civil war because he was a murderous man who wanted to show and encourage a revolution for slaves rights and freedom in the United States.

The election of 1860 consisted of 4 main runners for president, including Abe Lincoln, Stephen Douglas, John Breckenridge, and John Bell. Although Abe only received 40% of votes, he easily beat out the other contestants with the Electoral College Votes. This led to the civil war because people knew what Abe Lincoln was for and that if he was elected president he surely would try and outlaw slavery for the United States which upset many people in the South (upsetting mainly slave owners)
