  • Prohibiton begins

    People had been fighting for the ban of alcohol. In 1919, the states agreed on the Eighteenth Ammendment. It forbid the manufacturing, distributing, and sales of alcohol.
  • Teapot Dome Scandal

    Secretary of the Interior, Albert Fall, wanted to transfer oil reserves from the Navy Department to the Interior Department. The oil was supposed to be for the Navy's use in times of emergency. However, when Albert Fall had the control over the oil, he forgot about the Navy. He gave it to private oilmen, instead, as bribes.

  • The Spirit of St. Louis starts its flight

    This flight, by Charles Lindbergh, was the first non-stop flight from New York to Paris.
  • The Spirit of St. Louis ends its flight

    Charles Lindbergh's flgith lasted about 33 hours where he landed in Paris. He was greeted by around 150,000 locals waiting to see him arrive. He became famous instantly.
  • President Hoover is Elected

    Herbert Hoover was elected president in 1928 as the Republican candidate. His competition was Calvin Coolidge who he beat with 444 electoral votes.
  • Black Tuesday

    On Black Tuesday, the stock market crashed. It crashed because many people were happy with what they had and the economy began to slow down.

    Dust Bowl Years

    The Dust Bowl Years consisted of large storms of high winds which had picked up the topsoil form farms. This made a dust bowl which was impossible to run from. It cam about from the drought that had been going on in the West. The winds would pick up the topsoil and blow it into a massive storm.
  • Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act

    The Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act raised the prices on foreign imports so high that they could not compete with our American market.
  • Bonus Army March

    Many World War I veterans marched into Washington D.C. to try to get their problem fixed. They were promised bonuses by Congress for being a World War I veteran.
  • President Franklin D. Roosevelt is Elected

    President Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected into presidency in 1932. He beat Herbert Hoover by a lot because everyone was against Hoover and how he had affected America.
  • Prohibition ends

    President Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected into presidency. Congress then ratified the 21st ammendment which repealed the 18th ammendment.
  • Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA)

    In the Tennessee area lived many of the poorest Americans so Congress wanted to help by developing the TVA. The TVA built dams in the Tennessee river valley to control the floods and to make electric power. They also helped by replanting forests, built fertilizer plants, helped create new jobs, and attracted industry by having cheap power.
  • Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC)

    The FDIC insured bank deposits of around $5,000 and guarantees the safety for the members of banks.
  • Works Progress Administration (WPA)

    The WPA helped create new jobs by Congress using $5 billion to make sure this plan went through. It helped with the building of and improving of highways, rivers, and harbors.
  • Social Security Act

    The Social Security Act established unemployment insurance for workers who had lost their jobs or victims of work accidents. It also provided help for mothers and children that were under the poverty line.
  • Civilian Conservation Corps

    The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) opened jobs for 2 million men. These men helped by replanting forests, building trails, fighting fires, and digging irrigation ditches.
  • The Beginning of WWII

    World War II resulted from the rise in militarism regimes in Germany, Japan, and Italy. All of this started from the Great Depression in the 1930's that affected the entire world. The true war began when Germany invaded Poland.
