The 77th's soldiers received a thirty-day furlough and had to return to Camp Dennison in late February 1864.

Almost the entire regiment was captured. Those taken were held as prisoners of war at Camp Ford, Tyler, Texas, for ten months. In February, 1865, these men were paroled and exchanged. The 77th's members not captured at Marks's Mills formed a company.
