    Republican party meets in Philadelphia and nominates Greant for re-election to the presidency. Meeting in Baltimore on July 9th, the Democrats nominate Horace Greeley.

  • Financial Panic of 1873

    Financial panic of 1873 begins with the failure of Jay Cooke and Company after years of inflation, speculation, and the overproduction of paper currency. The Stock Exchange closes for 10 days.

  • Custer and Soliers

    Ignoring warnings of a massed Sioux army of 2000-4000 men, custer and 250 soldiers attacked the forces of Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse at the Little Big Horn. Custer and all of his men die in the attack. Sitting Bull escapes to Canada, returning to the United States in 1881, as a participant in Wild West shows.

  • Hubble Space Telescope is placed in orbit

    This telescope was launched with the Space Shuttle Discovery. The Telescope was named after the astronomer Edwin Hubble. It is the largest and most versatile in astronomy.
  • 27th Amendment Ratified

    This is a law that "prohibits any law increases or decreases the salary of members of the Congress from taking effect until the start of the next set of terms of office for Representatives"
  • World Trade Center Bombing

    This attack happened eight years before the 9-11 attacks on the World Trade Center. The bomb was in a truck and was detonated below the North Tower. Security was heightened after teh evacuation and they also updated the emergency procedures(mainly the evacuation of the towers)
  • Terrorist Attacks on the World Teade canter and The Pentagon

    There were 2996 deaths and more than 6000 injured. Two of the planes flew into the World Trade Centers another into the Pentagon. one was taken back by passengers and flown into a field but was originally targeted at Washington D.C. This changed the security that people go through at the airport. It brought people together and people started buying more guns to feel safe. Some racial profiling started as well.

    This war has been going on for over 11 years and with many casualties and unjuries. This war has changed foeign policy. This war has taken sons and daughters from their parents also moms and dads from their kids. Also it has left people without limbs and without their hearing from the gunfire.
  • Department of Homeland Security created

    There are about 240000 employees and they have an annual budget of about 60.8 billion dollars. This is a department was created because of the 9-11 attacks. its major responcibilities were protecting the U.S. and its territories.
    it made the U.S. people feel alittle bit safer at home and flying.
  • The Space Shuttle Columbia Disaster

    The shuttle was scheduled for its 28th mission when it fell apart over the states of Louisiana and Texas while it was re-entering the atmosphere. All seven of the crew members died.
  • Obama inaugurated as the first African American President

    Obama is the 44th President of the United States. He was then re-elected for a second term of presidency.
    The United States always had white presidents but Obama is always going to known for being the first African American president
  • Death of Osama bin Laden

    SEAL Team Six under the code-name Operation Neptune Spear was carried out a raid on Bin Laden's compound. He was burried at sea after his body was carried to Afghanistan for identification
  • Stock Market Falls

    There was a sharp drop in the Stock Market. The market not only dropped here but also in the Middle East, Europe and Asia. Many people lost money and some people also lost their jobs.
