The Huon family settled on the southern side of the Murray River.
The first Mass was celebrated in their home in 1843 by Father Lovet. 1843 -1860 Mass was celebrated in private homes by visiting priests. That is a total of 17 years without being in a church.

A small Church was built. It was called 'St.Augustine's.' Wodonga was then part of Chiltern's parish and served by the priest from Chiltern.
