    At a location one mile south-southeast of Thaxton, VA, winds with gusts estimated between 50 and 60 mph toppled some pine trees ten inches in diameter. Damage values are estimated. EPISODE NARRATIVE: Strong winds developed as a pressure gradient around an area of low pressure north of the area increased. The result was an isolated area of damaging winds over Bedford County Virginia.

    EVENT NARRATIVE: Ice accretion totaled 0.25 inches at Little Creek. EPISODE NARRATIVE: Cold high pressure was in place across the area as warm, moist air overspread the region in association with a warm front moving north across the region. The result was rain that fell onto sub-freezing surface that produced up to one-half inch of ice.

    Damaging winds of 64 mph downed a tree on Wardell Road near the Southwest Virginia Community College, four miles south-southwest of Claypool Hill, VA. Another tree was blown down in Mud Fork, VA at the intersection of Mud Fork Road and Tiptop Road. Damage estimates are estimated.     LOCATION: GILES & PATRICK CO
    Heavy rain and steep terrain contributed to a mudslide that caused partial lane closures at the intersection of Highways 460 and 100. An average of 2 to 5 inches of rain fell from this system onto an already saturated ground from recent snow melt and rainfall. The heavy rain contributed to flooding in Roanoke as well.

    Over four inches of rain fell over portions of Patrick County. Most roads in and around the town of Bassett had to be closed. The Blackwater Trailer Park had to be evacuated.Abundant rain advanced north into the region in advance of an area of low pressure to the west while a frontal boundary remained draped over the region. An average of 2 to 5 inches of rain fell from this system onto an already saturated ground from recent snow melt and rainfall. The heavy rain contributed to flooding.

    Trees were down across the southern portion of the county. EPISODE NARRATIVE: Low pressure tracked through the Ohio Valley and into the Great Lakes. Gusty winds developed ahead of the cold front that was associated with this low during the night of the 24th into the early morning hours of the 25th.

    LOCATION: Tazewell
    Strong southeast winds occurred across the higher elevations of the county as a dry slot pushed into the area. A mesonet in Tazewell recorded a gust of 78 mph. Many trees and power lines were also reported down across the county. Multiple Structures and trees were blown down blocking several streets across the county. A McDonald's play land roof was blown into the street.

    A mixture of heavy snow, sleet, freezing rain and rain impacted the region starting early on February 5th and continuing into the 6th. Snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 inches were reported across the region. Ice accumulations of .1 inches occurred near Tazewell.

    Light snow, mixed with sleet, fell across the region. Amounts weren't as high as earlier snowstorms. Lynchburg: 0.6"

    MOUNTAIN SNOW
    A mixed bag of wintry precipitation moved into the region early on the 9th, producing light accumulations. On the 10th cold air moved in with strong northwest winds. Significant upslope snow showers developed with near blizzard conditions at times. Total snow accumulations were 5 to 8 inches across the region.

    Strong northwest winds behind a strengthening coastal low, combined with accumulated snow, caused the roof on a Shell gas station to collapse in Appomattox; Numerous trees were downed and thousands were without power.

    LOCATION: Tazewell, Grayson
    Long duration upslope snow event brought a total of near 12 inches of snow across parts of the county. Strong northwest winds also created near blizzard conditions, with considerable blowing and drifting of the snow

    Numerous trees were downed. A car was also blown off the road on Route 100 in Floyd Co. An upper level low centered overhead, combined with a deepening coastal low brought cold air and strong northwest winds to the area. This resulted in significant upslope snow showers across the west facing slopes of the higher elevations across southwest Virginia. The strong northwest winds also caused damage across the region.

    Tornado confirmed near Alton in Halifax Co.
