Also known as the Grand Union Flag, the Union Flag, the Continental Flag, the Somerville Flag, and the Great Union. The first American Flag but not offical. -

The first official flag of the United States. There were 13 stars and 13 stripes to represent the 13 colonies. Now "Flag Day." -
Star Spangled Banner Flag
15 stars and 15 stripes, to represent teh 15 colonies plus Kentucky and Vermount. It was made by Mary Pickersgill and her daughter. The flag was flown over Fort McHenry, and this inspired Francis Scott Key -
The Great Star Flag
Congress passed the Flag Act of 1818, 5 new stars were added and 2 stripes were taken away. The five stars represented Tennessee, Ohio, Louisiana, Indiana, and Mississippi. -
23 Star Flag
2 stars were added for Alabama and Maine. This balanced the free and slave states, and the Union held the majority of the free states. -
28 Star Flag
A new star was added when the United States annexed Texas, that caused the Mexican-American War. This was the first battle that American troops carried teh flags into battle. The United States defeated Mexico. -
31 Star Flag
A new star is added for California. -
35 Star Flag
A star is added for West Virgina. Virgina split into 2 states, for the confederacy and the union. This was the first time a state is formed out of the rebellion of the original state. -
48 Star Flag
2 stars are added for New Mexico and Arizona. This flag was in service for 47 years and went through 2 World Wars. -
50 Star American Flag
The last star was added for Hawaii, and is America's longest serving flag.
