Betaseron approved by FDA for relapsing-remitting MS, becoming the first drug approved that effects its underlying disease. The Society had supported the first study of any time of interferon in MS, paving the way for the ultimate approval of 3 types of interferon therapies for MS.

Camp Carefree was started this year. This was an opportunity for families living with MS to relax and meet other families while enjoying a variety of activities such as horseback riding and fishing.

Hickory, NC walk was added this year. And what a year it was!! They set a new chapter record of $40,000 within this first year.

The Mid-Atlantic Chapter held the nation's first 3-day Walk for Multiple Sclerosis this year. The Challenge Walk route went from Hickory, NC to Uptown Charlotte.

This year the Society offered scholarship opportunities this year for rising seniors who have a parent with MS or have MS.
