  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    The Japanese Navy launched a suprise attack on the U.S. Pacific Fleet. It consisted of two different ariel waves of 353 planes launched from six navy aircraft carriers. 2,402 Americans were killed and another 1,200 injured.
  • Declaration of War

    Following the attack of Pearl Harbor the United States and Britain declare war on Japan. This was followed by Germany declaring was on the United States a short 3 day after.
  • Battle of Stalingrad

    Battle of Stalingrad
    This battle took place in southwest Russia with the Nazi German fought the Soviet Union in a battle considered as a turning point in the war. The great Russian winter helped slow down axis advance leading to the ally victory.

    Invasion of Italy
    The allies moved across the Mediterranean into Sicily in June. They got many of the Italians to turn on their leader Benito Mussolini. Allies then began to occupy the peninsula and sent troops to Anzio to push the Italians together. The troops in Anzio were stuck on the beach for 4 months before they southern troops came and rescused them. The allies lost a total of 25-30,000 men.

    D-Day--Invasion of France
    "Operation Overload" was the landing of British, American, and Canadian forces on Normandy beach in France. There were over 3.5 million troops along with over 5,000 ally ships. This lead to the full retreat of Hilter and the German troops.
  • Discovery of Majdanek

    Discovery of Majdanek
    The discovery of Majdanek was the first large concentration camp of WWII. Majdanek was found by the Russian army near Lublin, Poland. The camp was burned to hit the existance but the gas chambers was still evident.
  • V-E Day

    V-E Day
    Europe fell May 6-7 to the allies. Celebrations followed the victory however, there were many postwar problems to be deal with.
  • Atomic Bomb

    Atomic Bomb
    The city of Hiroshima was the main target of "Little Boy" the 9,700 pound uranium bomb because of its large population of 300,000 and its important military status of 43,000 soliders. Within one mile of ground zero nearly every building was destroyed and within three miles nearly all bulidings had damage.
  • V-J Day

    V-J Day
    V-J Day markes the end of the war resulting in celebrations. Thousands of people crowdedin New York City's Time Square to celebrate. Many postwar issues would follow
