    In 1941 Alco built a locomotive for the union pacific number UP No. 4014 a 4-8-8-4 "Big Boy". The descation of 4-8-8-4 mean that they had 4 leading wheels, 2 sets of 8 driving wheels and 4 trailing wheels.The Big Boys were some of the largest steam locomotives ever built. They had a 6,290 hp out put and a max speed of 80 mph. They where made to haul large amounts of freight.

    4014 "Big Boy" Move To Cheyenne
    UP No. 4014 was moved from its display and move to UP's West Colton Yard in Bloomington, California. It was on display there until april 28th when it was move to Cheyenne. On may 8th it was moved to the steam restoration shop in Cheyenne to start work. Thought it sat idle while the steam restoration shop crew worked on locomotive 844 and to enlarge the shop to help restore of the engine. Photo by Raymond Shobe

    The shop crew has started the long process of restoring the locomotive back to running order. The crew replaced the coal burning firebox with a oil burning one. Like they had done with 844.

    4017 left Cheyenne to travel to Ogden Utah for the 150th golden spike ceremony. 4014 and 844 would both be the main main attraction celebration the 150th golden spike anniversary.
