    Signed the Amazon Cooperation Treaty - TCA and Plan of Action on Science and Technology for the Amazon, by the governments of Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela. The TCA has as one of its goals to foster scientific, technological and cultural cooperation between the signatory countries.

    Held the International Seminar "Alternative Scientific, Technological and Cultural Institutions of Higher Education" - QUOTES where they met representatives from universities and research institutions of the Amazonian countries of the ACT, with the aim of enabling cooperation between the Amazonian institutions.   • I Special Meeting of the Central Commission, in Belem, Brazil

    The meeting was attended by UNESCO, which was responsible for sending a technical high level mission to Belém to discuss and improve the design of the Inter-University Program for Amazonian Cooperation - Programaz with the UNAMAZ Central Commission. In addition, the president of the Association José Seixas Lourenço was appointed General Coordinator of Programaz and authorized to make the necessary modifications to any formal negotiations with the Program staff and financial cooperation agencies.

    This meeting was held during the International Seminar "Scientific, Technological and Cultural Information and Documentation in the Amazon," as part of the International Research and Training Program for the Development of the Amazon - PRODAM with the support of the Organization of American States - OAS.

    Implementation of the International course of Scientific Policy and Technology for the Amazon - CIPCTAM. Offers a critical analysis of the problems in the Amazon region.
  • Regional Education Project and Upper Middle - PROMESUP

    Opening of the Regional Education Project and Upper Middle - PROMESUP. One of the three multinational priority projects of the Regional Education - PREDE, the Organization of American States - OAS. To promote multi-national studies and research on the organization and evaluation of institutions of higher education and teacher training in second and third degrees.
  • II Meeting of the Central Commission, in Belem, Brazil.26 Mar 1989

    The Second Meeting of the Central Committee had the support of the Organization of American States-OAS in the framework of the International Research and Training Program for the Development of the Amazon-PRODAM. The key results of this meeting were the negotiation of Programaz activities with agencies of cooperation, details of activities to be undertaken and confirmation of other countries joining the Amazon Project of OAS.
  • III General Meeting UNAMAZ , in Belém-Brazil.

    The agenda for this meeting includes the approval of amendments to the Articles of Association and the negotiation of Programaz with agencies of cooperation. The most important modification of the statute refers to the reformulation of the Central Commission UNAMAZ and the creation of national vice-presidencies.
  • IV Meeting of the Central Commission, in Caracas, Venezuela

    This meeting was attended by agencies of cooperation. The main outcome of the meeting was the approval of the project information system of the Amazon - SIAMAZ to be sent to the Interamerican Development Bank - IDB for funding and grants and passes by the Organization of American States for the workshop on "Management agroforestry in the Amazon rainforest”.
  • V General Meeting of the Central Commission on October 28 - November 1, 1990, in Belem, Brazil.

    With technical and financial support from UNESCO and OAS, the Fifth Meeting of UNAMAZ was held during the international seminar "The Ecological Disorder in Amazonia," organized by UNAMAZ, the International Council of Social Sciences / CISS and the Federal University of Pará. The main outcome of the meeting was the restructuring of Programaz, when it was commissioned to the Vice-Presidency of Venezuela to synthesize proposals from each vice-president.
  • VI Meeting of the Central Commission, in Caracas, Venezuela

    The main resolutions adopted at this meeting were to strengthen the Programaz, including proposals made by the vice-presidents of each country and the approval of the program of scholarships for studies that developed over the Amazon. The meeting was held with the International Seminar on "Reflections on the new roles of higher education in the world", organized by CRESALC / UNESCO.
  • South-South Cooperation Program for Sustainable Development in the Humid Tropics

    The beginning of South-South Cooperation for Sustainable Development in the Humid Tropics, with the aim of strengthening the exchange of information, experience and expertise in developing research projects and the dissemination of knowledge.

    Implementation of the Information System of the Amazon SIAMAZ for the effective promotion of the free flow of information generated between the Amazonian countries.
  • VII Meeting of the Central Commission, in Caracas -Venezuela.

    The main result was the adoption of bylaws, subject to subsequent ratification at the General Meeting. The meeting was held during the workshop "Integral Approach to Human Health in the Amazon," held by UNAMAZ sponsored by the International Development Research Center / IDRC-Canada.

    Conducted together with the International Conference "Sustainable Development in the Humid Tropics." During the meeting, the following topics were approved: the proposal for statutory reform held at the Seventh Meeting of the Central Commission, the establishment of a Drafting Committee, the ranking members of the Association in accordance with the new statute, the election of new vice presidents and election the President of the Association to fill the position for the period 1992/94.

    Gathered under the "I International Conference on Sustainable Development in the Humid Tropics" and the General Meeting, The Central Commission considered the following: Appointment of Executive Secretary UNAMAZ, presentation of programs and projects, the current status of Programaz, acceptance of new members , setting new quotas and suggestions for regulation status.

    Program Management of International Technical Cooperation in S&T for Amazon-PROCINT/AMAZON
    Creation of the Management of International Technical Cooperation in S&T for the Amazon-PROCINT/AMAZÔNIA. The following organizations participated in this initiative: the United Nations Development Program - UNDP, the Nucleus for Advanced Amazonian Studies - NAEA / UFPA, the National Institute for Amazon Research - INPA UNAMAZ aiming at the training of staff with expertise in facilitating the sustainable development and protection of natural resources in the Amazon.

    This meeting was attended by observers representing international institutions like UNESCO, UNICEF, IDB, OUI / Newsletter, World Bank, Université du Québec, IDRC, DAAD, UNDP, ACT and national bodies of Brazil and Bolivia. At the time, the applications of new members were approved and further details on ongoing projects were presented.

    During the meeting, held at the University of Amazonas, the projects in progress of partner institutions were presented, such as the Program for Secondary Education and Higher Education - PROMESUP / OAS, Information System of the Amazon / SIAMAZ, the South-South Cooperation Program / UNESCO, Program Poverty and Environment in the Amazon / POEMA, the Research Program of Essential Health / PAIES, Environmental Impact Studies / UNESCO Chairs.

    This meeting approved the following proposals: the resolution that states that all projects must be approved by the Central Commission conducted by the vice-presidency of the Association, the establishment / structuring of a coordination unit in each UNAMAZ vice president office and the proposal of a resolution of the Central Comission for the Project EDAMAZ where UAGRM-Bolivia is the representative of UNAMAZ at the Academic Committee.

    The meeting was held before the Fourth General Meeting of the Association. The main outcome was a proposal to the General Meeting to extend for one year the term of office of the current leaders to finalize the proposal for statutory reform in progress.
  • IV General Meeting of UNAMAZ in Belém-Brazil.

    The Meeting was held in the Second International Conference on Sustainable Development in the Humid Tropics and had the support of OAS, UNESCO, FINEP, and CNPq / CAPES. The most important result of this General Meeting was the one-year extension of the mandate of the leaders of UNAMAZ, in order to complete the statutory reform underway.

    Held in Brasilia, the International Conference ' Amazon 21: An Agenda for a Sustainable World' was attended by representatives of all the Amazon countries.

    The new statute was approved to be submitted to the General Meeting for ratification.
  • V UNAMAZ General Meeting, in Brasilia, Brazil.

    In the V UNAMAZ General Meeting the new status of the Association was ratified.
  • VI UNAMAZ General Meeting in Caracas, Venezuela.

    One of the most significant outcomes of this meeting was the adoption of guidelines to enhance the new action program, Programaz 2000-2010, which is oriented to meet the requirements of an association as UNAMAZ, designed to respond to the goal of Sustainable Development.

    Chaired by the Secretary General of UNAMAZ, Dr. Antonio De Lisio, the main subjects discussed were: the conversion of the Association of Amazonian Universities in an organization with increased fields of action; general discussion on Biodiversity, Development and Globalization, Water Geopolitics and Biogenetic Patent; resolutions to be expanded to the 57 member universities.

    This meeting was supported by the Universidad Autónoma Gabriel René Moreno, whose president, Julio Salek Mery, was elected to serve as president of UNAMAZ during the period 2003 to 2006.
  • Cooperation Agreement between UNAMAZ and the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO).

    The cooperation agreement between UNAMAZ and the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) was signed. Together, the entities build a Regional Indigenous agenda focused on three priorities: Indigenous Lands and Territories, Traditional Knowledge, Indigenous Peoples in Voluntary Isolation and / or Initial Contact.

    The University Students Exchange Program was launched, involving a partnership between the Amazon Initiative and UNAMAZ. The program aims at encouraging inter-institutional collaboration and mobility of university students from Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Suriname and Guyana.

    During the meeting, the president of UNAMAZ, Julio Salek, stressed the importance of restructuring the statutes of the entity. "Our work must conform to the new challenges posed by the modern world," he said.

    Attended by the presidents of the member institutions of the Association and guests, including the professor
    Armando Mendes and former dean of the UFPA, Seixas Lourenço,first president of UNAMAZ. In the assembly UNAMAZ approved a new statute, its strategic plan of action until 2020 and the creation of the Permanent Secretariat General which is responsible for the line of cooperation betwe institutions of higher education and research.     The creation of the International Seminar on Amazon Research was proposed to be held on March 26 – 28, 2008, at the Universidad Nacional de Loja in the province of Zamora Chinchipe, in Ecuador.

    At this meeting some important points of the agenda were the Action Plan proposed by the Presidency and the Secretariat, strengthening the UNAMAZ 2020 project, Phase II - Presentation and discussion of objectives, components, activities and expected results and implementation / creation of the International University of Amazon.

    During the meeting the following issues were discussed: the Strategic Plans for the future of UNAMAZ, the possibilities of agreements and conventions that offer support for research and teaching, the Partnership through the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) with other institutions and proposed deployment of the Virtual Library of Health. The meeting was attended by members of the eight UNAMAZ vice-presidencies and the president Max Gonzales, Ecuador.

    At the meeting, which took place at the National University of Colombia, in the city of Leticia, the need to facilitate the exchange of students between the countries of the Amazon region was emphasized. The most outstanding point was the proposal of the National University of Colombia to become the headquarters of the Secretariat of UNAMAZ.
