History of Penn State Brandywine

  • Penn State Comes to Delaware County

    Delaware County commissioners request to establish a campus of the Pennsylvania State Universtiy in Delaware County in 1966.
  • Campus Opening

    The campus opened in a rented building in Chester on September 25, 1967, admitting 236 students. They were taught by a full-time faculty of 11, and were served by a campus library consisting of about 500 books.
  • Construction of New Campus

    November 1968, the groundbreaking ceremonies held for the new campus.
  • New Campus Dedicated

    May 1971, the dedication ceremonies for the new campus building. About 600 people attended the ceremonies which was moved indoors due to rain.
  • Library/Learning Center Opens

    December 1980, Library/Learning Center is officially opened.
  • Commons/Athletic Center Ceremony

    October 1985, groundbreaking ceremony for Commons/Athletic Center.
  • Dedication of Commons/Athletic Center

    October 1988, the dedication of Commons/Athletic Center.
  • Classroom Building Dedication

    October 1998, the The Classroom Building is formally dedicated.
  • Penn State Delware County becomes Penn State Brandywine

    November 2007, Penn State’s Board of Trustees approves Penn State Delaware County’s official name change to Penn State Brandywine.
