    Jamestown Settlement
    The Jamestown Settlement was the first permanent English colony in North America. It was located in Virginia on the bank of the James River and was founded 13 years before the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth, Massachusetts. It remained Virginia's capital until 1699.
  • Mayflower Compact

    The Mayflower Compact was a written agreement that defined the first government of Plymouth, Massachusetts. The document established that the colony was to be free of English law.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    Louisiana Purchase
    King Napoleon of France sold the Louisiana Territory to the United States for a price of 15 million dollars.
  • Trail of Tears

    Trail of Tears
    The Trail of Tears refers to the forced relocation of Native Americans as a part of Andrew Jackson's Indian removal policy. As the Natives were forced to march westward, many died from starvation, disease, and exhaustion. The last band of the Seminoles were force westward in chains in 1859.

    The Civil War was fought between the northern and the southern states of the U.S.The south had seceded to form the Confederate States of America. The main cause of the war was the disagreement on whether or not slavery would be outlawed.
