    Hennington v. Georgia
    This case deals with the superindent of the railroad company violating the law forbidding freight trains from running on Sundays. The Superintendent of the railroad company was punished and convicted.
  • Brandenburg v. Ohio

    Brandenburg v. Ohio
    This court case declared that talking about illegal acts is allowed under the 1st amendment, unless it is an act that can cause danger like crime, sabotage, violence, and terrorism. The ohio law violated Brandenburg's free speech right. The court said that the speech can be used to break the amendment if its directly towards someone or it would have caused action against something.

    Stanley v. Georgia
    Law officers searched stanleys house because of convicted of allefed activities. He was convicted under georgias law for th3e "possesion of obscene materials". STanley made the point that if the first amendment were followed that the officers would not be allowed to get someone in trouble for what they watch or read.
  • Street v. New York

    Street v. New York
    A black veteran, Sidney Street, was in his apartment in Brooklyn, New York. He had heard that James Meredith, a civil rights activist had been shot during a march. Sidney Street took an old american flag, a peice of paper and layed them on the side walk. He proceeded to burn the flag. A policemen came to the scene. The New York Court charged Street with "Malicios Mischief" for burning an american flag. The court stated that Street was convicted for the burning a flag not his words.

    This case was due to prohibitig the teaching of onlawful acts of violence. John Harris was accused under the law. The court found that a federal court could not punish him based on the document for equality.
  • Hazelwood school district v. Kuhlmeier

    Hazelwood school district v. Kuhlmeier
    Hazelwood East High School had anewpaper that was wrtten by their students. The principle found articles that were labeled as "inappropriate" and made the pages be taken down. The students who wrote the paper brought the case to the court. The first amendment stated that it did not require schools to promote certain types of student speech. The school did not taketheir rights away by taking editing control.
  • Lee v. Weisman

    Lee v. Weisman
    Middle school principle, Robert E. Lee, invited a rabbie to speak at the graduation for his public school. A man named Daniel Weismans daughter attened the publc school. Weisman attempted to file a report against him for speaking about religion in a private school. What the rabbi did was against the first amendment and violated everyones rights.
  • Morse v. Frederick

    Morse v. Frederick
    Joseph Frederick was seen holding a banner at a schooo event that said "Bong Hits 4 Jesus", which refrences majauana use. Frederick was suspended for 10 days. Frederick the sued Priciple Deborah Morse for violation of the first amendment. The court over ruled and sided with Morse. The court overall ruled that the school has the right to not allow students to display drug use during school.
